Hiking
Hiking with children can be a wonderful way to bond as a family. Fort Creek Conservation Area has varied trails that change from treed dirt paths to open spaces and bridges to trek across. Don’t forget to pack snacks and water. Kids will love hiking with fun tools like binoculars, magnifying glasses, and notebooks to record findings.
Visit a Farm
A family trip to the local farm can be about more than picking a pumpkin. Thomson Farms, just 15 minutes from our Sault Ste. Marie Apartments, has sweet corn ripe and ready for picking and a corn maze opening soon. Stay for live music or let the kids play on the swings. Then check out the Farm Shop for delicious treats to take home.
Explore Museums
Here in Sault Ste. Marie, we have several museums to explore. Families can tour the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre to learn about all types of airplanes and then stop in at The Entomica Insectarium, the best place to learn about bugs. The Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site was the world’s longest lock and today guests can tour the grounds, learn about the heritage, and sit to watch boats go by.
Go Fishing
Whether your kids know how to fish or not, fishing with them can be a fun family activity. When fishing with kids, teach them the basics and let them have fun with it. Bring gloves just in case the kids are apprehensive about touching the fish with bare hands. There’s nice fishing spots along the Sault Ste. Marie Boardwalk, just minutes from our Willow Apartments.
Go Camping
Autumn is one of the best times to go camping; the warm weather and changing leaves provide a beautiful landscape to enjoy. The Sault Ste. Marie KOA Campgrounds has big rig sites, tent sites, and cabins available only 11 minutes from our Sault Ste. Marie Apartments. Along with campsites, this location offers a playground, mini golf, and bike rentals.
