Celebrating 30 Years of the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre

The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre in Sault Ste. Marie turns 30 this year!

If you haven't visited before, Next Apartment has all the information you'll need to join the celebrations at this fascinating museum.

Visit the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre on March 18th, their official anniversary, for a free open house from 10am until 7pm. Speeches from local dignitaries will begin at 3pm followed by a cake cutting ceremony.

This museum is filled with amazing artifacts, fascinating history, and countless things to do! Tour the beautifully restored, repaired, or replicated bushplanes and learn about their incredible histories, or climb an actual fire tower and see what was involved in forest fire fighting back in the 1940s. Kids love the children's centre, where they can explore, touch, learn, and even try out the flight simulator!

Chamber members can also join the Take 5 Chamber of Commerce event at the Heritage Centre on March 21st from 5pm to 7pm, for an evening of networking, food, and prizes! This event is free for all Chamber members and $10 for non-members.

The anniversary celebrations continue in April at the Art Gallery of Algoma, located just 10 minutes from our Pine Allard and Willow properties. View the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre exhibit to see 30 years of history unfold through captivating photographs in the gallery's project room.

Also, in April, the Heritage Centre will host movie nights by donation. Visit the museum on April 8th or 11th to view a collection of short films which may include the 1942 film Captains of the Clouds, featuring the Noorduyn Norseman MkI CF-AYO. The remains of this very plane are currently on display at the museum.

Anniversary celebrations will continue throughout the year with special events and appearances. Pilots can fly to the museum any time for a tour, or join the Fly-in Float Plane event in June with packages available for purchase through the Heritage Centre.

The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre is a quick drive from our Sault Ste. Marie apartments. Open daily, this centre is perfect for pilots, families, and anyone who wants to learn about our aviation history. Check out their website for more information on future events.
