Holiday Decorating for Renters

If you want your apartment to be a little more jolly, we have some tips to help you decorate without losing living space.

Keep your decorating simple by using smaller decorations, in a variety of different areas of your apartment. Look for surfaces that aren't used daily, like bookcases and other shelves, to place the bulk of your decorations. Grapevine wreaths take up less space than a traditional evergreen wreath and look festive with small ribbons, bows, or ornaments. Your walls are the perfect space to decorate, so hang garland with clear 3M Command hooks, use washi tape to display your Christmas cards, or just hang a few red bows on your walls.

Look for ways to add decorations into your décor. Instead of your usual blankets, throws, and decorative pillows, swap them out for holiday themed throws and pillows throughout your living room. Tie red velvet bows to the backs of your dining chairs and add a festive tablecloth.

Your windows can be decorated without taking up prime space within your apartment. Use your windows to hang
wreaths, string lights, and garland. Your local department store will even have some light up decorations to place in the windows. Your doorways are the ideal spot for simple festive evergreens or natural mistletoe.

Christmas trees don't always have to be big, and in an apartment, trees can take up too much space. Small, artificial Christmas trees can be tucked up against a wall to take up less space. Or, you can make a holiday urn with live evergreen branches, twigs, pinecones, and other natural elements and top it off with a string of lights. A holiday urn is a perfect stand in for a Christmas tree when you are tight on space.
